Game Art
About the Course
Students will be provided with the supplies needed. Students may bring a laptop or tablet of their choice.
Students will explore the expressive possibilities of video games and the role of game art in shaping player experience. Through guided exercises and studio projects, they’ll discover how visual design, storytelling, and interaction work together to create atmosphere, emotion, and identity within a game.
Students will examine existing games as both designed experiences and works of art. They’ll develop original game art concepts and explore how artistic choices can support a story, evoke feeling, and influence how players understand and navigate a game.
Through individual and collaborative work, students will put these ideas into practice by creating concept art and functional visual assets. They’ll also explore game modification, contributing original artwork to an existing commercial game that supports modding.
What Students Will Create
Students will produce concept art and visual assets for a small collaborative game project. They’ll also create a game mod that introduces their original artwork into a selected game, building a collection of work that demonstrates how visual design can shape interactive experiences.
