Music
Music Licensing & Publishing for Musicians
Over the span of 8 weeks, musicians will gain a deep understanding of music copyright, different types of licenses, rights, and royalties associated with music usage. They will learn about protecting their intellectual property, the role of performance rights organizations (PROs), and the mechanics of music publishing.
Learn a variety of new skills and music in a group setting with this course that covers a breadth of American roots music styles through hands-on ensemble activity.
In this 8-week course, students will learn the fundamentals of beat making by diving into a new aspect of composition and production, culminating in a fully mixed track ready for sharing.
Designed for all levels of composers, students will either deepen their knowledge of brass composition or begin to have an understanding of brass instrumentation, techniques, and tonal possibilities.
Learn piano and music appropriate to your skill level while creating a foundational understanding of music theory through the study of chords, harmonic progressions and scales.
Practical Music Theory for Musicians
Designed for musicians who can already play, but lack formal theory knowledge, this course combines the skills between performance and understanding, offering practical knowledge into the building blocks of music.
This course is designed for mandolin players to engage in hands-on study of the mandolin fretboard, including moving up and down the neck. In this group setting, students will work on a variety of tunes and learn how to use the pick to achieve variations of tone, adding personalized nuance to techniques like mandolin tremolo.
Tailored for both aspiring and seasoned composers interested in building their string composition tool box or growing beyond their current string composition knowledge, students will dive into the dynamic characteristics of various string instruments, from the violin to the double bass, and explore techniques to enhance their current compositions or work on new work.
In this workshopping course, creativity meets collaboration in a supportive and dynamic environment for musicians to grow through peer and faculty feedback. Designed for aspiring and experienced songwriters, this course provides a unique opportunity to refine your skills through interactive sessions with faculty and peers.
Art
Sketching, illustrating and painting in a sketchbook is a wonderful way to open doors to your imagination, get to know yourself better and at the same time, release the stories hidden within you.
Street Photography for Introverts
In this one-of-a-kind course, students will learn how to capture compelling and candid moments in the bustling urban environment while overcoming the challenges of being an introvert.
Create with clay and learn about the many ways to explore either a new art medium or expand on previous skills! Through hand building, students will learn the three methods: pinch, coil and slab to create a variety of functional and sculptural objects.
Learn basic steps, demonstrate a variety of pen techniques and be encouraged to make your creative experience smoother. In this course, students will mainly learn how to draw with technical pens, ballpoint pens and brush pens, but dip pens or fountain pens are welcome as well.
This course provides an opportunity to bring projects in for feedback in a creative environment. Students will receive instructor feedback, as well as work with peers to discuss works on a personal level. Students will have discussions on your creative direction and discuss questions on your artistic journey.
Design
Portfolio Development for UX, Graphic Design & Illustration
Take your design skills beyond the computer, and design with faculty and peer review time built into a course that can help you grow passed your current portfolio. This course, led by a respected designer and professor, helps creatives refine their portfolios for job seeking or project improvement.
Touch Designer: Live Visuals for Live Performances
In this introductory class, students will dive into the world of TouchDesigner, a powerful visual platform for creating stunning real-time projections and immersive experiences. Focusing on the application of TouchDesigner in live performances, students will learn the fundamentals of real-time video manipulation, 2 and 3D graphics and audio-reactive visualizations, tailored to your unique vision.
Figma: Zero to Hero Prototyping
Become a prototyping hero! This course is broken into two sections with the first half focusing on technical skill development and the second tailored to practical application.
Elevate your interior architecture skills! This cutting-edge program is designed for interior architects and designers eager to harness the power of virtual reality to create immersive, animated interior environments. Students will learn to use advanced VR tools and software to visualize and animate interior spaces, bringing their design concepts to life with stunning realism and interactivity.
Dance
Class will guide participants through different "scores and structures", qualities and states as a way to access your unique movement expressions. We will use drawing, writing, text, and anything else you bring into the space as part of the process. The course will end with low-pressure work in progress showing.
Franklin Method® for Joint Health and Performance
The Franklin Method® combines functional anatomy and Dynamic Neuro-Cognitive Imagery to improve motor performance. Research has shown that attaching specific thoughts or visualizations to movements can boost the way the body performs them. These techniques promote health, injury prevention, longevity and general well being. These workshops explore optimal joint function through imagery, anatomy, props and movement.
Through different warm ups, students will work on leg and plank exercises to incorporate warm up combinations. Students will work on connecting the movements in your body and learning to make them their own and help speak to their voice through the movement; everyone has a different body and relates to movements differently, so I work towards what works for you after building a base.
This class will teach students various foundational steps and variations in Hip Hop dance as well as the foundation of bounce, rock, roll and skate. Students will learn different warm ups, leg and plank exercises and will incorporate warm up combinations as well.
Theater
Consent & Intimacy for Stage and Screen
Working with consent and confidence to tell exciting stories of intimacy on stage or in film requires two things: an understanding of oneself as an artist and the use of theatrical intimacy best practices. This course covers both those facets and will prepare participants to work more confidently and with more tools on intimate theatrical material.
Theatrical Intimacy Best Practices
Whether it’s a handshake, an embrace, or a kiss, nearly every play has a moment of intimacy. And just like dancing or fighting on stage, there are tools that can be used to navigate those moments with respect and care. Come learn theatrical intimacy best practices used in theater to create safer spaces and more exciting stories.
Grounded in safety and the art of illusion, this class combines basic unarmed stage fighting with Intimacy protocols. Discover good partnering and the power of grounded connection in your performances.
This class introduces students to the profession of commercial voiceover work through exercises and hours of practical experience with a wide array of material. The course covers self-marketing, unions, analysis, vocal care, contracts, and etiquette.
Film
Solo Documentary Filmmaking Part 1
In the first part of this solo documentary filmmaking course, students will absorb the crucial skills of conducting engaging interviews and operating a camera effectively.
Solo Documentary Filmmaking Part 2
Through hands-on exercises and guided instruction, participants will learn the essentials of non-linear editing, including cutting techniques, audio mixing, color grading, and adding titles and graphics.
AI in filmmaking is already making huge leaps! Learn how to utilize the tools you need to grow alongside AI in filmmaking and utilize the new skills AI embraces to grow your skills. This course is for students interested in AI in film and/or video, first-time content makers to professional producers.
Digital Collage for Film & Video
Create collages from existing video footage. Possible screen-based outputs include original stories, experimental documentaries or essays, and personal memorabilia.
