Stop Motion Puppet Fabrication
About the Course
Some materials required (Not included). Bulk materials included ($200 value). The instructor will be in touch with extra materials required.
In this hands-on class, students will take their first steps into the world of stop-motion by designing, armaturing, and building a fully functional puppet ready for animation. They will explore a range of materials used in professional puppet fabrication, including wire, foam, liquid latex, epoxy resin, and acrylic paint, learning how each contributes to durability, flexibility, and character design.
The course also introduces students to a variety of puppet styles seen in film and television—from Pinocchio and Wallace and Gromit to the Ted Lasso Christmas special and Robot Chicken. Through demonstrations and guided practice, students will gain foundational skills in sculpting, assembly, and finishing techniques.
By the end of the elective, students will have created an original stop-motion puppet and will be prepared to explore more advanced builds and animation techniques in future 200-level courses.
While this elective can be taken on its own, is is designed to pair perfectly with the core Summer@Cornish morning Art & Design Intensive program.
We encourage students to enroll the morning intensive to build a strong foundation, then expand their skills and interests through these afternoon electives.
