Students will be provided with supplies for this elective.

In this class, students will put aside digital devices and immerse themselves in the world of alternative and experimental film photography. During the first week, they will explore the fundamentals of the traditional silver darkroom, beginning with photograms made from plants and found objects before moving on to photographing their surroundings using Holga medium-format film cameras.

Students will learn to process their own film and create hand-printed photographs in the darkroom, gaining an appreciation for the tactile, hands-on nature of analog image-making. In the final projects, students will transform their darkroom prints into unique art objects, folding, binding, and collaging their images into handmade books and three-dimensional works.

While this elective can be taken on its own, is is designed to pair perfectly with the core Summer@Cornish morning Art & Design Intensive program.

We encourage students to enroll the morning intensive to build a strong foundation, then expand their skills and interests through these afternoon electives.
