Students will not need any supplies for this elective. It is recommended that the students have a flash drive to save their work, as well as a Adobe Creative Suite account. If they do not have an Adobe account, one will be provided for them, but we recommend using their own account so that any work is saved to their personal account.

Students will explore film editing as a creative tool for shaping story, rhythm, and emotion. Through guided instruction and hands-on projects, they’ll discover how the arrangement of images and sound can build tension, establish mood, and bring a film narrative to life.

Working with Adobe Premiere Pro, students will learn to import and organize footage, assemble sequences, edit sound, and add transitions and effects. They’ll develop practical workflows and learn to troubleshoot common technical issues as they move from an initial assembly to a refined edit.

Students will experiment with timing, pacing, and the relationship between shots, considering how each editing choice influences an audience’s experience. Through feedback and revision, they’ll strengthen their technical skills and develop confidence making purposeful storytelling decisions.

What Students Will Create

Students will complete a polished short editing project that demonstrates their growing ability to shape footage and sound into a cohesive film experience. Their finished work will be suitable for consideration in film school applications, student festival submissions, or the Summer@Cornish final screening for family and friends.

What Registration Will Include

This registration will cover one afternoon elective only. A morning intensive, a second afternoon elective, and housing will require separate registration.

Students will be able to take this elective on its own or combine it with other Summer@Cornish courses. No morning intensive will be required.
