Dance for Musical Theater
About the Course
Supplies are included for all students.
Dance for Musical Theater explores how movement in performance has rapidly evolved over the past decade, from the rise of hip hop and street styles on Broadway to the influence of viral choreography on social media. Students will study the cultural shift in musical theater and gain an understanding of the movement styles shaping the industry today.
This elective introduces current street dance forms, commercial jazz and hip hop, and other styles commonly featured in contemporary theater, film, and digital platforms. Students will train in both performance technique and stylistic versatility, essential tools for todays multidisciplinary performer.
While this elective can be taken on its own, is is designed to pair perfectly with the core Summer@Cornish morning Musical & Theater Intensive program.
We encourage students to enroll the morning intensive to build a strong foundation, then expand their skills and interests through these afternoon electives.

My So-called High School Rank
My So-Called High School Rank chronicles the creation of a musical theater production at Granite Bay High School in Sacramento, CA, inspired by students’ stories of the constant pressures to achieve a top-rank in every part of their lives to get ahead in today’s fierce college admissions process.
The film features the “Ranked” creators Kyle Holmes and David Taylor Gomes, as well as students, parents and staff of Granite Bay High School and Cupertino High School in California, Fordham High School for the Arts in New York City, and Ripley High School in West Virginia.
