Presented in partnership by Cornish College of the Arts and Path with Art, this five-week online course will introduce participants to artREMEDY, Path with Art’s training model for trauma-informed, strengths-based arts facilitation.

Grounded in the neuroscience of creativity and more than 18 years of Path with Art’s direct practice, artREMEDY will explore the role of arts engagement in health and recovery. Participants will examine how creative experiences affect the brain and body, learn strategies to help prevent re-traumatization, and develop practical tools for radical hospitality, bias awareness, responsive facilitation, and de-escalation.

The course will culminate in an applied session where participants will practice these approaches through real-world scenarios and role-play. Participants will leave with tools to design and facilitate inclusive arts experiences that support connection, resilience, and well-being.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion upon finishing the course.

What Participants Will Learn

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe art’s relationship to health using foundational concepts from neuroaesthetics, including how creative practice engages the brain and body and how trauma can shape behavior and participation.
  • Design trauma-informed, strengths-based arts experiences using responsive facilitation strategies that help prevent re-traumatization and support confidence, growth, and empowerment.
  • Build belonging by applying principles of Radical Hospitality, Responsive Facilitation, Accessibility, and Inclusive Practices.
  • Recognize personal bias and respond to tension with empathy, awareness, and de-escalation strategies that support more welcoming and equitable spaces.
  • Apply these principles in practice through guided scenarios and role-play.

Who This Course Is For

This course will support:

  • Teaching artists, arts educators, and creative practitioners who want to facilitate more inclusive, trauma-informed arts experiences.
  • Professionals in healthcare, behavioral health, social services, education, housing, and community settings who want to explore how arts engagement can support connection and recovery.
  • Facilitators working with people who have experienced trauma, marginalization, or barriers to participation.
  • Anyone seeking practical, evidence-informed tools for responsive facilitation, accessibility, bias awareness, and de-escalation.
