This four-session workshop is designed for high school juniors and seniors preparing to apply to visual arts undergraduate programs. Under the guidance of Cornish faculty, Admissions counselors, and the Cornish Writing Center, students will leave the course with a polished digital portfolio of their artwork, a school-specific Statement of Purpose, and practical experience in confidently presenting and critiquing creative work.

While students are encouraged to arrive with a body of work ready for review, works in progress are equally welcome and can be developed during the workshop.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will:

  • Complete a refined digital portfolio of their artwork with individualized feedback from Cornish faculty and Admissions counselors.
  • Develop a compelling Statement of Purpose and receive support on additional written application materials required by colleges.
  • Learn foundational techniques in photography and lighting to professionally document both 2D and 3D work.
  • Strengthen verbal communication skills when presenting their own work and engaging in critique of peers’ work.
  • Receive guidance in navigating the specific application requirements and expectations of individual schools.
