Cornish College of the Arts
presents:
CHESS
Music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus
Lyrics by Tim Rice
Based on an idea by Tim Rice
Before Mamma Mia, members of the pop group ABBA teamed up with Tim Rice (Jesus Christ Superstar, The Lion King, Evita) to create a dynamic drama centered around a fictional world chess championship, mirroring the 1980s Cold War tensions of USA vs. Soviet Russia. The pop rock score became a worldwide smash and includes the hit single “One Night in Bangkok.” At Cornish, Chess will be produced in an intimate staging allowing our student-actors and our audience to connect to this high-stakes world of politics and personal betrayal in a new way. As Florence sings, “Everybody’s playing the game, but nobody’s rules are the same.”
***Rated PG for mild language and provocative choreography.
***Please note that Cornish College of the Arts utilizes Theatrical haze and fog for many productions. If atomospheric elements are a part of a production's design, there will be two performances without the use of Haze and Fog. Those performances will be publisized in advance.
CHESS is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals. www.concordtheatricals.com
