DESIGNING WITH WORDS AND IMAGES
This module explores the role of text as a visual element in design, examining how it can both convey a verbal message and enhance an overall composition. Students will learn how text and images interact, with a focus on typography’s rules for layout and structure. Key topics include grids, alignment, and the expressive potential of alphabetic characters. The module will emphasize editorial communication and information, highlighting clarity and organization in design, and integrating text with photographs, illustrations, diagrams, and maps for effective visual storytelling.

O U T C O M E S
+ Identify main typographic styles and understand typographic classification.
+ Develop proficiency in working with paragraphs and reading texts with attention to typographic principles and rules of style.
+ Recognize and implement typographic layout principles and text elements like headlines, captions, etc.
+ Design and produce layouts of visual communication employing text and images.
MODULE COMPLETION
This module can be taken independently for focused learning on image-making and visual communication. However, it is designed as part of the Graphic Design Certificate Program, providing a comprehensive foundation in design principles.
