Become a prototyping hero! This course is broken into two sections with the first half focusing on technical skill development and the second tailored to practical application. In section one, students will learn the Figma interface through weekly demos and exercises and then transition to a multi-week website project in section two. Students will apply principles of user-centered design and best practices from industry to create a portfolio ready project upon completion.  

Week 01 – Exploring the Figma Interface

  • Basic tools, group & layer management, images & effects

Week 02 – Layout & Assets in Figma

  • Responsive vs adaptive design, auto layout, grids, components

Week 03 – Design System Basics

  • Introducing design systems, styles, libraries 

Week 04 – Beginning Prototyping & Flow

  • Prototyping basics, interactive components, micro-interactions, flow thinking

Week 05 – Sketches & Lo-Fi Wireframes

  • Project brief introduced, layout sketches, lo-fi wire-framing

Week 06 – Hi-Fi Prototyping & Variables

  • Project hi-fi prototype, variable introduction, critique time

Week 07 – User-Testing

  • Maze testing, project critique & revisions

Week 08 – Project Launch

  • Final project presentations

Time Commitments:

Hybrid Learning Time – 2-5 Hours of Video Content Per Week

  • New course demos will unlock on Monday mornings. Students are responsible for making time to watch content.

Course Work Time – 2-5 Hours of Homework Per Week

  • New course work will unlock on Monday mornings and will typically be due the following Monday. Students are responsible for getting work done in a timely manner.

Lab Time – 3 Hours Per Week

  • Lab times will run once a week on Wednesday evenings. These are synchronous online sessions where you can review coursework with your instructor. Attendance is not mandatory except for the final day of class when projects are presented.
