Seattle Creates Partnership: Igniting the Creative Economy

Seattle Creates Partnership: Igniting the Creative Economy

By Kel Dylla

It’s no secret that Seattle has an amazing arts scene - and that getting a leg up in the creative sector can be overwhelming.  Especially for high-school and young professionals just learning about how to make yourself invaluable to your networks and potential clients or employers, it can be hard to know where to start, who to talk to, how to make sure you put your best foot forward.

The Seattle Creates partnership with Cornish+  is dedicated to supporting creatives at all stages of their careers by offering monthly hands-on workshops at the intersection of arts, technology, and creativity.

Each second Thursday of the month, these in-person events provide immersive cross-industry training that supports interdisciplinary careers. Beginning just this past April, it’s clear that there is a need for spaces where those experienced in the gig economy can share their tips to the next generation of artists. The next exciting event, focused on Careers in Performance Arts, Dance, and Content Creation, is scheduled for August 8, 2024, at Raisebeck Hall, formerly Skinner Theater.

Presenters include Kisha Vaughn from Dope Girl Movement and Alayshia Baggett, known for her work with Brown Shuga. This workshop promises a blend of artistic performance and practical skills for content creation.

Tacoma-based Alayshia Baggett will co-lead the career development workshop on Aug. 8 at Raisebeck Hall.

Alayshia writes “ The goal of this workshop is to educate and inspire individuals of all ages about the diverse mediums of performing arts, including dance, theater, and music. We aim to highlight the importance of physicality and mindset in performance, offering insights into the lifestyle and opportunities within the industry. Through interactive discussions and expert panels, we hope to encourage participants to explore and pursue careers in the performing arts.”

Cornish College of the Arts is proud to support this initiative, ensuring that Seattle’s creative economy continues to thrive and innovate. With affordable pricing and free access for the Cornish community, Seattle Creates is committed to making a positive impact on both the local economy and cultural landscape.

Everybody and every age is welcome! Join us in celebrating and fostering the talents that make Seattle a hub of creativity and innovation. For more details and registration, visit the Seattle Creates page.
