AI in filmmaking is already making huge leaps! Learn how to utilize the tools you need to grow alongside AI in filmmaking and utilize the new skills AI embraces to grow your skills. This course is for students interested in AI in film and/or video, first-time content makers to professional producers. No previous experience necessary!

Students will immerse themselves in the evolving relationship between AI + film + video production by creating a short trailer for a hypothetical film, and then by initiating a new piece of narrative, expository, and/or experimental film/video (depending on your own interests). In the process, we’ll examine the enormous ramifications of generative AI technology for our own lives and society at large.

With this synchronous and asynchronous course format, students will be able to use the time between in person meetings to create, share, and receive faculty feedback and reviews from peers. This course is over 8 weeks, meeting in person bi-weekly in order to allow students to absorb the knowledge and create content to be reviewed.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn and use AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Midjourney, Elevenlabs, DiD, Adobe Enhance Speech, etc.
  • Practice basic uses of conventional editing platforms such as DaVinci Resolve and Audacity.
  • Explore legal and ethical parameters of intellectual property, including Fair Use guidelines and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
  • Explore the economics, aesthetics, and power dynamics attendant to generative AI technologies.
