This course will explore personal clown in terms of physical gesture, expressivity, and the presentational aspects of this theatrical form.
Students will begin with investigating the basics of the personal clown, which consists of literally walking into character, using your own physical idiosyncrasies as the underpinning of your clown character. Working towards then exploring the presentational aspects of the form in a technical unit. The underlying methodology is based on improvisation to discover and explore the impulses and actions of your clown. To end the session, students will by explore new material based on the clown characters in solo or duo pieces.

- Review of the basic concepts of presentational theater
- Theory and practice of exaggerated physical form
- Clown formation (or reintroduction of previous clown form)
- Snapping in and out of character
- Entrances and exits

- Construction of a short clown piece…solo or duo
