Working with consent and confidence to tell exciting stories of intimacy on stage or in film requires two things: an understanding of oneself as an artist and the use of theatrical intimacy best practices. This course covers both those facets and will prepare participants to work more confidently and with more tools on intimate theatrical material. The course will cover power dynamics, consent-focused exercises, boundary practices, choreography creation, troubleshooting, handling tough conversations, self-advocacy practices, self-care techniques, and performance of intimate content. Each class will include discussion and Q&A time. Physical contact is not required and participants may engage at their own level of comfort.
Learning Outcomes:
- Analyzing text for theatrical intimacy
- Establishing boundaries for yourself and with a partner
- Creating dynamic choreography with consent
- Communicating with creative team members through challenges and problems
- Personalizing practices to sustainably work with challenging material
