Some materials included. The instructor will reach out to registered students for any additional required materials.
Can’t get more hands on than making your very own hand puppet. In this class you will design and fabricate a hand puppet character, building out of such materials as foam, felt and feathers to name a few. FUN! You will learn mouth plate design, the use of rods for arm/extremity movements and the famous “Muppet Hand Stitch” to sew up the seams of your pal. By the end of this class we will send you home with a new friend.
Learning Outcomes:
- Get an overview of puppet history and different styles of puppets
- Learn how to breakdown a character design for build and acting needs
- Learn how to use foam to creature a substructure for our puppet (head and torso)
- Learn body/appendage construction for movement using rods
- Learn how to apply "Muppet Fleece" (NylaFleece)
- Learn fur/hair/eye application
- Learn basic costume approaches for hand puppets
