Learn the hands-on technique of making mysterious and alluring wet-plate images from scratch in this 6-week course. This process based class is designed to take the mystery out of collodion and provide students with a solid understanding of how the Wet Plate process works. Students will learn how to source and mix your own chemistry, and use this to coat, sensitize, and process plates. As a quick outline, students will discuss and practice: darkroom setup, chemical handling and storage, lenses, light and exposure, practical large format camera use, light metering and troubleshooting common problems. Students will learn how to make darkroom silver prints from the glass plate negatives, and weather permitting, will also spend one class session with my mobile darkroom in the field making long exposure landscape images.
