This course will introduce design strategies for creating patterns and then realize those patterns in a variety of print media. Printmaking methods covered in this course include linoleum relief, mono print, and screen print.
- Basic Printmaking Techniques
- Introduction to methods such as relief printing, intaglio, lithography, and screen printing.
- Pattern Design Principles
- Fundamentals of designing repeating patterns and motifs.
- Block Printing
- Techniques for carving and printing with linoleum or wood blocks.
- Stencil Making and Use
- Creating and applying stencils for pattern development and printing.
- Color Theory and Application
- Understanding color relationships and applying them in printmaking.
- Layering and Registration
- Techniques for layering multiple colors and ensuring precise alignment in prints.
- Experimental Printmaking
- Exploring unconventional materials and methods to create unique patterns and prints.
- Surface Preparation
- Preparing different surfaces for printing, such as paper, fabric, and other materials.
- Creative Process and Conceptualization
- Developing ideas and concepts for pattern and print projects.
- Critique and Refinement
- Engaging in peer critique and refining techniques based on feedback.
Open Studio Hours in the printmaking lab with studio technician will be available during the following times for the duration of the class:
Monday: 5pm - 8pm
Thursday: 10am - 1pm
Friday: 2pm - 5pm; 5pm - 8pm
