Laser Cutting for Letterpress
About the Course
All supplies are included in the tuition.
6 Hours Total
Are you curious about how to integrate laser cutting into letterpress printing? In this workshop students will cut your own designs using a laser cutter and print multiple copies of your image. Combine it with wood type or other decorative elements from the Cornish letterpress type collection for a fun simple postcard, flyer, or series of experiments. No letterpress experience necessary; knowledge of vector-based software (i.e. Adobe Illustrator) a plus, but not required. Instructor Dan D Shafer is a graphic designer and educator and has integrated laser cutting into many personal and professional projects over the last 10 years.
By the end of the workshop, students would have hands-on experience with both the digital and manual processes involved in integrating laser cutting with letterpress printing. They would leave with a set of custom laser-cut printing plates and printed examples, as well as the knowledge to continue exploring this hybrid technique independently.
