FEFU AND HER FRIENDS
By María Irene Fornés
Originally produced by the New York Theater Strategy
Cuban-American playwright María Irene Fornés’ Fefu and Her Friends invites the audience to be a fly on the wall in this unconventional tale of eight women gathered at a New England country home in 1935. An innovation of immersive theater when first produced in 1977, the play separates audiences into four groups that independently tour Fefu’s home. Stories and histories come to light as we happen upon conversations between Fefu’s companions and confidants, illuminating the physics-defying contortions women achieve as they navigate the patriarchal systems at play in and around them.
***This production contains mature themes, staged intimacy and violence, loud noises including gunshots, and a firearm will appear onstage. Audience will move from location to location on the first floor of our Main Campus Center - ADA accommodations available for all mobilities.
