Through an intersectional and liberatory frame, this course will encourage business mindedness within an entrepreneurial context while teaching essential professional skills such as pricing, contracts, licensing, client acquisition, and financial management.

Students will learn what it takes to start something new, join something that is happening, and shift something that has always been as creative entrepreneurs.

Students will develop an appreciation for the profound force of entrepreneurship in local, national, and global economies through an intersectional frame, explore career options that involve entrepreneurship, and learn how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to various areas of their lives.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Articulate a personal mission rooted in your artistic identity, values, and positionality within intersecting systems of power.
  • Set prices, negotiate contracts, manage finances, and acquire clients as a working creative professional.
  • Identify opportunities, design ventures using strategic tools, and pitch ideas persuasively in written and oral formats
  • Apply entrepreneurial thinking across any career path — freelance, nonprofit, commercial, or hybrid — as a lifelong practice.
