Dance Intensive
About the Course
Students should have at least 3-6 years of technical dance training; including contemporary, ballet, street forms and/or social dance forms.
Dance education at Cornish has been the root of the college since its inception.
Over the course of 4 weeks, dancers will explore methods in composition and improvisation through movement, writing and discussion. Students develop a foundation of conceptual understanding in order to facilitate deeper work in the creative process curriculum. This morning pre-college foundation intensive covers an array of techniques, as well as experiential anatomy, conditioning, and our core faculty methods integrated to create a foundation of conceptual understanding and physical awareness that enhances students’ work in technique courses. Each morning, students will work on compositional practices and choreography, as well as contemporary dance to strengthen their skills as they begin to develop the necessary skills of a professional dancer.
Fridays are dedicated to audition preparation for college programs. On the fourth Friday, parents and guests will be invited to an informal performance.
Students are encouraged to select up to 2 afternoon electives in any discipline. These electives are open to all students and do not require placement.
