Beat Makers

The rich history of beatmaking has its roots in hip hop but has expanded to encompass a wide range of musical expression.  Learn the fundamentals of beatmaking using a digital audio workstation such as Garageband or Ableton Live on personal devices such as an IPad, IPhone or Desktop Computer. Each week students will dive into a new aspect of composition and production first as a group activity, then given the opportunity to work on individual projects, culminating in a fully mixed track ready for sharing.  Students learn sampling, MIDI drums and melodies and recording, with some historical context mixed in. No prior experience necessary.
