Presented in partnership with Path with Art, this five-week online course will introduce participants to artREMEDY, Path with Art’s nationally recognized training model for trauma-informed, strengths-based arts facilitation.

Grounded in the neuroscience of creativity and more than 18 years of direct practice, artREMEDY also draws on increasing evidence about the role of arts engagement in health and recovery. Participants will explore how arts engagement affects the brain and body, learn strategies that help prevent re-traumatization, and develop practical tools for radical hospitality, bias awareness, responsive facilitation, and de-escalation.

The course will culminate in an applied session where participants will put these principles into practice through real-world scenarios and role-play. Participants will leave prepared to design and facilitate inclusive arts experiences that foster connection, resilience, and well-being. Participants will receive a certificate of completion upon finishing the course.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Describe art’s impact on health, including how creative practice affects the brain and body and how trauma can shape health and behavior, using foundational concepts from neuroaesthetics.

Design trauma-informed, strengths-based arts experiences using responsive facilitation strategies that help prevent re-traumatization and build self-efficacy, growth, and empowerment.

Foster belonging by applying frameworks of Radical Hospitality, Responsive Facilitation, Accessibility, and Inclusive Practices.

Recognize personal bias and de-escalate tension using empathy and awareness to help participants and facilitators remain calm, centered, and confident while building safer, more equitable spaces.

Apply trauma-informed, strengths-based, and inclusive principles to real-world arts facilitation through guided practice and role-play.
